Background

The Deltin Suites is a 106 room 5-Star hotel with a casino and 2 restaurants. It is located in the state of Goa, where tourism is the major industry. The hotel had an MBBR based 25 KLD treatment system which was grossly undersized, took up a lot of space, needed operators in 3 shifts and was unable to treat the wastewater. The result was a terrible odour which was offensive to guests as well as the surrounding residents who raised strong objection with the Pollution Control Board. Furthermore, Deltin was spending a handsome amount of money each month to have the sewage carted away in tankers every 2-3 days.

Challenges

Space:

Every square foot of the property was utilised for the structures, access roads, parking, utilities, pool, etc. The only available space was a small garden between the old STP and the reception structure which was a repurposed heritage structure.

Running Hotel:

Being a running hotel, the old STP had to be kept running until the new one was commissioned.

Aesthetics:

Since the only available location was right next to the reception, aesthetics was important.

Solution:

BioWater Treatment Systems LLP designed a 75 KLD system to cope with the higher load and to squeeze in between the old heritage structure and the tanks of the old treatment system using the MyFAST® 2.0 with AMS® and BMS® options. Once the MyFAST® 2.0 and AMS® were installed in new tanks, the old system was decommissioned. The pump room was recommissioned into a drivers’ waiting room, the old tanks were reused for the BMS® system after internal modifications, a lawn was laid on the old STP tanks and a parking space was created on the new tanks.

Result:

BioWater was able to replace the old STP with a new one with 3 times the capacity using less space and no full-time operator. Space was freed up for parking and a drivers’ waiting room while the overall aesthetics of the area was improved.
