What is BioBarrier® HSMBR® Winery?

The BioBarrier® HSMBR® is a high strength wastewater treatment system that uses a Membrane Bioreactor (MBR). The Winery version of this product is specially designed to handle the organic loading unique to winemaking facilities.

Like the BioBarrier® HSMBR®, this technology removes organic pollutants and suspended solids with the use of ultrafiltration membranes. BioBarrier® HSMBR® Winery (WHSMBR) systems are predesigned for the particular wastewater characteristics present in winery applications where process wastewater is generated from crush, winemaking, and bottling operations. The systems include the membrane filtration system along with a high-capacity aeration system designed to handle much higher organic loads as compared to residential and light-commercial wastewater applications. The system can also be adapted to other kinds of food and beverage process wastewater.

How Does it Work?

The membrane module is submerged in a tank full of aerated MLSS (Mixed Liquor Suspended Solids), where organic matter and suspended solids are biologically broken down. The membranes physically separate water from microorganisms and suspended solids. Water is drawn through the membranes with vacuum pressure, leaving the suspended biomass material in the aeration tank.
